Oily skin: what to do?
Choose the right cleanser for oily skin
Facial cleansing is the first step to a proper skin care regime. Choose a cleansing product formulated for oily skin and use it with lukewarm water twice a day: on waking and before going to bed.
Use a primer
Choose an opaque primer that helps reduce the gloss effect. Its function is to facilitate the preparation of the makeup and keep excess sebum in check. Today's primers contain extraordinary ingredients that go beyond the simple task of providing a makeup base. Look for a primer with antioxidant vitamins to counteract the effects of free radicals.
Sunscreen: always essential
Never give up a sun screen. Once it was considered the number one enemy of fat skins, but today it is no longer the case. In the field of solar protection, great strides have been made and waiting times between application and exposure have improved considerably. Many of these products are less oily, more opaque and do not leave that unwelcome feeling slippery; on the contrary, they have a pleasant powdery consistency, excellent for oily skin. Sunscreens are essential for keeping your skin healthy and youthful, so choose the one that's right for you.
Attention to quantity
It is always difficult to understand which is the right amount of product to apply. In most cases a quantity as big as a 2 cent coin is enough if we talk about face and night serums and creams. If you overdo it, you risk accentuating the glossy effect.
A simple trick to avoid exaggeration:
Apply five product pins on the face:
one on the forehead, one on the nose, one on the chin and one on each of the cheeks, then stretch them with upward and outward movements, in the direction of the hair line. Let it dry. If you have the feeling that one area requires another product, apply it only there. I do this every day. For some reason, the left side of the forehead always requires a moisturizer supplement. I am convinced that it is the area of my face most exposed to the sun when I drive and over time it has become more sensitive.
A clay mask
Masks can be extremely beneficial for those with oily skin problems. You don't have to apply them every day; they are enough once or twice a week to notice the effects on the skin. Bentonite is my favorite type of clay because of its proven absorbing and toning properties. It removes sebum, dirt and dead cells, thus helping to avoid clogging of the pores, which is at the origin of the formation of pimples. A good clay mask should also help reduce pore size.
Other tips for those with oily skin
• Use a tonic without alcohol in the morning and evening to balance the skin.
• Always carry wipes or face powder with you to remove excess sebum.
• Do not apply too many products and do not overdo the quantities. Look for a moisturizer or an SPF serum to avoid adding another layer of product.
• When choosing cosmetics, always look for matting products. Whatever favors the absorption of sebum or the reduction of the gloss effect is welcome.
• An oily layer on the skin is not a bad thing in itself as it greatly reduces the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles. The problem occurs when sebum is excessive and the skin begins to appear greasy. It is in these cases that the advice I gave you may be useful.
